We’ve been straight back into the swing of things here at Breakthrough since returning for the spring term. For many of our students this means academic courses are continuing in earnest, but there’s always time to integrate some new experiences and independent living skills in to the mix. For some of our Lighthouse students, this meant a visit to Plymouth’s Theatre Royal to watch Goldilocks and the Three Bears. Packed with comedy, special effects and hair-raising stunts, we had a wonderful time and it was great to see our students socialising together on the trip.
Theatres can be loud and busy places, and pantomime in particular can be raucous and overwhelming, but the students handled it brilliantly and really enjoyed the show. One of the students was inspired to write their own review:
I, including a few other students, went to the Theatre Royal in Plymouth to watch Goldilocks.
The play was a simple story with every single trope you would get from a panto: a happy ever after, a typical villain, a man with makeup, the love plot that has no purpose apart from being there. The best part were the side acts – the comedian with a puppet or the juggler who was able to juggle seven at once and then was able to juggle five small balls with his mouth.
The seats were alright and a student next to me got sweets and shared them with me.
All in all it was a fun experience.
