Level 3 Climbing

Level 3 Climbing

Level 3 climbing is an advanced award that focuses on developing climbing and belaying skills. It prepares climbers to safely climb and belay at any facility, and to operate responsibly. We are delighted to be supporting two of our students as they undertake their Level 3 qualification at the Dyno Climbing Centre in Buckfastleigh.

Level 3 climbing skills include:

Knowing different types of harnesses, helmets, rock shoes, and belay devices
Being able to evaluate the condition of equipment and maintain it properly
Knowing knots like the figure of eight on the bight, clove hitch, and overhand
Being able to belay using a variety of devices
Understanding a range of climbing techniques
Knowing the principles of good climbing movement
Understanding the structure of a climbing session, including warming up, stretching, climbing, peaking, warming down, and resting
