Christmas at Lighthouse

Christmas at Lighthouse

We celebrate Christmas in each of our centres in different ways. One of our Lighthouse students has written this lovely overview of what Christmas is like there:

Christmas at The Lighthouse is a good and an enjoyable experience, people are festive and one of the best things we did was the wellbeing advent calendar. Some days it was about checking in with how we were feeling, other days it was about doing something kind for someone else or taking a bit of time for ourselves. Everyone joined in differently, some people were open, others kept it more to themselves, and that was fine. No pressure. It just gave us a reason to slow down and talk, which doesn’t always happen easily.

The Christmas dinner was probably my favourite part a drooling gravy running down the food spreading flavour all around. Staff and students all sat together, which made it feel less like school and more like being part of something. The food was good, but it wasn’t really about that. It was more about sitting down, chatting, laughing, and just feeling comfortable. Some people were trying new things, others stuck with what they knew, and no one made it awkward. It felt nice to just be there and enjoy the moment.

What I like about Christmas at The Lighthouse is that it doesn’t feel forced. You don’t have to pretend to be happy or overly festive. You can just be yourself. The staff understand that Christmas can be hard for some people, and that makes a big difference. It feels safe, supportive, and real.

Overall, Christmas here shows what The Lighthouse is about looking after people, building trust, and creating a place where everyone feels like they belong. It might be different, but in a good way.
