Students at Brocks Farm have been taking part in National November Writing Month (NaNoWriMo). National Novel Writing Month began in 1999 as a daunting but straightforward challenge: to write 50,000 words of a novel in thirty days. Now, each year on November 1, hundreds of thousands of people around the world begin to write, determined to end the month with a first draft. This fantastic initiative shows the transformational power of creativity. NaNoWriMo provide the structure, community, and encouragement to help people find their voices and achieve creative goals, while Breakthrough have provided the time and support to have a go.
We have had students and staff take time for their novels and short stories – with some incredible results! One student has written 2,000 words, and another student has performed a short story and then made it into a book. Another student, who has been into creative writing for quite some time, has been giving staff members tips on how to improve their writing. It has been really lovely to see everyone encouraging each other and achieving so much with the power of the written word.
