If you wandered in to our Cannamore Farm site you might be surprised to see students and staff busily engrossed in finger knitting! Inspired by the Guiness World Records, one of our students has encouraged the team there to take on a finger knitting challenge, and it’s proving curiously addictive.
Not only is the activity both mindful and relaxing, there is a strong sense of satisfaction from working together to make an ever-growing finger knitting chain. Whether it’s knitting during a meeting, as a means of relaxing after lunch or as a student participates in lessons, everyone has been on board with the challenge.
The current Guiness World Record is held by a group of children from the Netherlands. It took them a whole year of knitting to make a chain that is 20,250 m (66,437 ft) in length. Setting a new World Record is no mean feat, and the process involved is rightly very strict. We know we’re unlikely to meet the official criteria for a new record, but we’re having huge fun giving it a go. All wool donations gratefully received in the meantime!
