Reflecting on the Autumn Term

As the autumn term draws to a close, we’ve been reflecting on the incredible achievements and the diverse educational experiences of our students. There has been a range of activities at each of our centres this term, aimed at providing an enriching experience to open horizons and provide opportunities. The list is not exhaustive but gives you an idea of what has been on offer:

· Theatre trip to RSC Stratford Upon Avon to see Othello

· Theatre trip to Plymouth Theatre Royal to see War Horse

· Staff taking part in Movember activities

· Staff, students and parents organising and taking part in a Macmillan Coffee Morning

· Return visit by two previous students to give a presentation

· Plymouth University trip for students to review options for higher education

· Arts University Plymouth trip to view the exhibitions of two former students

· Plymouth Careers Fair

· Art trip to Make South West

· Preparatory visit to Derriford Hospital for a student with staff to enable easier access to health care

· Winter celebrations Christmas Carol Concert

· Jollabookaflod – A Scandanavian tradition, similar to Secret Santa, but with books

· Christmas pet competition whereby pets have to be photographed with something Christmassy

· The Mental Health Advent Calendar created by our Mental Health Lead, Rachel Gilbert

· Student visit to RAM and Pheonix Arts Centre in Exeter for an art exhibition

· Students visited the Chagford Pony sales

· Student visit to Torre Abbey

· Mental Health Week – activities and awareness for staff and students

· Wellbeing singing for staff and students every Tuesday after lunch

· Careers’ Week – highlighting various career opportunities to students and arranging work experience for students

· Opportunities for students to play musical instruments elsewhere

· ‘Advent pocket’ activity this December with trivia and logic problems for students to solve daily

· Thanksgiving week – activities and awareness around that theme – the ‘Stone Soup’ lunch was a great success

· Evening theatre trip to watch ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ in Mothecombe
