We have been enjoying a Thanksgiving Week at our centre in Newton Abbot, The Lighthouse, with a focus on celebrating individual differences and sharing some of the things we are thankful for. We ran a range of different quizzes throughout the week which were enjoyed by everyone in the conference area. We also had lots of bright and meaningful decorations around the centre with ‘Go Fishing’ questions on the stairs.

The art department created a fun Recycle Restyle challenge, where different teams had to style a mannequin from a box of dressing up items. We loved the finished looks! As well as the creativity, social interaction and innovation involved.

As ever, our amazing chef went above and beyond, creating a series of lunches based on the kind of meals our students are most thankful for. Chinese chicken curry was a particular favourite!

We also had a huge amount of fun with a ‘Guess the Staff Member’ game: students had to employ their best detective skills and work out who was who from all the different baby pictures. It turns out looks can be deceiving! Then it was the staff’s turn – they had to guess which student was which from the likes and dislikes provided. Some were definitely harder than others!
We also had a poetry wall to celebrate difference and a daily prayer of thanks, before finishing the week with a celebratory picnic. The students helped to create the food and decorate the space ready, and we even invited a past staff member to join us – it was lovely to see Margaret again!
